RE:PUBLICATION
IN THE DAILY CHAMPION ON MONDAY DECEMBER 14, 2009, CAPTIONED: “ANAMBRA 2010:
ANGLICAN CHURCH OKAYS ANDY UBA”
The attention of the
Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has been drawn to the publication in the Daily Champion of Monday, December 14, 2009, Vol. 22, no.
248, captioned: “Anambra 2010: Anglican Church Okays Andy Uba”
The publication
which is at page 6 gave the impression that the Anglican Church has endorsed
the candidacy of Andy Uba for the governorship election of Anambra State and
dumped Dr. Chris Ngige.
The Church of
Nigeria Anglican Communion, which is episcopally led and synodically governed,
currently has 165 bishops, 160 dioceses and a General Synod/Standing Committee
that acts for and on behalf of the Church.None of these bodies have issued any statement concerning the
candidature of any person in the Anambra gubernatorial elections in 2010.
The Church is
neither partisan nor in the habit of endorsing any candidate for any particular
election but would rather pray for the candidates and the electorate for the
guidance of the Holy Spirit in electing a worthy leader for good
governance.This indeed has been our
prayer for Nigeria and all the States of the Federation. But of course, individual Anglicans are
entirely free, as citizens of Nigeria to support any candidate of their
choice.
The Church will
continue to pray for God’s intervention in the Anambra State gubernatorial
elections scheduled to 2010.
