Economics of Common Sense versus Economics of Love – Archbishop Maduoma

The Most Rev. Dr. Caleb A. Maduoma, Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Ideato Anglican Diocese has expressed concern about the Christian attitude towards giving to God and His Church. He made this known during the Third Session of the Fifth Synod of the diocese, held at the Anglican Cathedral of St. Peter, Arondizuogu, Ideato-North LGA, Imo State. He added that it is quite disturbing that some Christians especially Anglicans consider it as a “waste” or misplaced priority to make generous donations to the Church.

With the swearing in of the Committee on Amnesty, Nigerians who think it is a wrong step towards a genuine peace in the land, are struggling rather patriotically to accommodate the strange situation. Many notable and respectable people across ethnic and religious divides have spoken in favour of the suggestion, some due to the general frustration with Boko haram, and the government. This amnesty proposition therefore seems like "peace at all cost."

“Amnesty is a political language and not a solution to the persecution in Nigeria.”

This pronouncement was made by the Rt. Rev. Joseph Musa, Bishop of Idah Diocese during the Abuja Diocesan Power night held at All Saints Anglican Church, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. While speaking on the topic, ‘Looking unto Jesus’, he said that the Church must arise in prayers as was often done in the Scriptures by the early Christians and look unto Jesus for the nation and the President adding that the deliverance of Nigeria is in the hands of believers.

The Abuja Diocesan Synod

The Third Session of the Eighth Synod of the Diocese of Abuja (Anglican Communion) will take place from 16th – 19th May, 2013. The Theme for this year is ‘Christian Stewardship’ from 1 Corinthians 4:2 and the Venue is St. Matthew’s Church Maitama, Abuja.

The Opening Ceremony which will also include the presentation of the Bishop’s Charge is scheduled to hold at 10am on Friday,17th May, 2013, and the Thanksgiving Service will hold on Sunday, 19th May, 2013 at 10am.

Election of Ms. Amal Pepple as President of United Nations Habitat

The Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Amal Pepple has been elected President of the governing Council of the United Nations Habitat.

The Election took place last week in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This is the first time Nigeria is elected to that position since 1978. Ms. Amal Pepple will occupy the seat for two years, 2013 – 2015.

The First Session of the Second Synod of Isiala Ngwa South Diocese will commence on Friday 10th to Sunday 12th of May, 2013. Venue is St. Mathias Church, Umueleghele. The Bishop’s Charge will be presented on Saturday May 11th, 2013 at 10.00am by Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac C. Nwaobia. The grand finale of the 1st Session of the 2nd Synod is the Thanksgiving on Sunday 12th, May 2013 at the same venue.

THE BIOGRAPHY OF THE PRIMATE OF ALL NIGERIA
The Most Revd. Nicholas Dikeriehi Orogodo Okoh was born on 10th November, 1952 at Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State to Mr. Stephen Chinakwe and Mrs. Nwagho Okoh. Without intending to be modest, his parents were poor peasant farmers, who who carried out mere subsistence farming. He attended St. Michael's (Anglican) School, Owa-Alero from 1958-1964 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate.

Church History

The Church of Nigeria has experienced eventful years of her history as an autonomous Province in the Anglican Communion worldwide. The story can be traced to 1906 when a conference of Bishops in Communion with the Anglican Church held in Lagos. The Rt. Rev. E.H. Elwin, then Bishop of Sierra Leone, presided at the meeting.
