  Plough Sunday is the first Sunday after Epiphany (January 13).

   The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is observed from January 18 to 25.

   Education Sunday is observed on the Ninth Sunday before Easter. Septuagesima (February 11).

   The Queen’s Accession is commemorated on February 6.

   Mid-Lent, Mothering, or Refreshment Sunday is the Fourth Sunday in Lent (March 10).

   Rogation Sunday is the Fifth Sunday after Easter (May 5).

   The Thursday after Trinity Sunday (June 14) is often observed in Thanksgiving for
      HolyCommunion and called Corpus Christi.

   The Feast of Dedication is observed on the anniversary of the dedication or consecration
      of a church, or, when the actual date is unknown, on the First Sunday in October (October 6).

   November 2 is often observed in Commemoration of the Departed and called All Souls’ Day.

   Remembrance Sunday is observed on the Second Sunday in November (November 11).

   The Eve of St. Andrew’s Day (November 29) is observed as a day of intercession for the
      missionary work of the Church overseas.

   The Ember Days for 1998 as ordered by the Prayer Book are March 4, 6, 7; June 3, 5, 6;
      September 16, 18, 19; December 16, 18, 19. The Alternative Service Book, reflecting
      current practice in holding ordinations, retains the Lent dates but substitutes June 24, 26, 27
      (Petertide); September 23, 25, 26 (Michaelmas); December 9, 11, 12 (Advent).

   Days of Discipline and Self-Denial: according to the ASB these are Ash Wednesday;
     Good Friday; the other weekdays in Lent; all the Fridays in the year except
            (a) Christmas Day and Epiphany;                                                                                      (b) all Festivals and Greater Holy Days falling outside Lent;                                                          (c) the Fridays after Christmas Day and Easter Day.

  Days of Fasting and Abstinence: according to the BCP these are the forty days of
     Lent, the Ember Days at the four seasons, the three Rogation Days, and all Fridays in the year
     except Christmas Day. The BCP also orders the observance of the Evens or Vigils before The
     Nativity of our Lord, The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, The Annunciation of the
     Blessed Virgin Mary, Easter Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and before the following saints’
     days: St. Matthias, St. John Baptist, St. Peter, St. James, St. Bartholomew, St. Matthew,
     St. Simon and St. Jude, St. Andrew, St. Thomas, and All Saints. (If any of these days falls
     on Monday, the Vigil is to be kept on the previous Saturday.)

LESSER HOLY DAYS
Different ways of observing these may be noted:

1.   Where a Lesser Holy Day is the name day or patronal feast of the church it is in
     effect to be treated as a Greater Holy Day. Similarly, the Feast of the Dedication or
     Consecration of a church may be so observed.

2.  Lesser Holy Days may, unless they lapse, be observed with the service and the
     colour appropriate to them, the Sunday collect not being used. According to
     the Book of Common Prayer, however, the Advent or Lent collect follows the
     collect for the Lesser Holy Day when it falls in one of those seasons.

3.  Lesser Holy Days, unless they lapse, may simply be commemorated by the use
     of the collect for the Lesser Holy Day after the collect for the day.
